Threads

A thread is a single conversation within a channel, consisting of a series of related questions or a discussion on a specific topic with the help of a query bot. It helps you visually group related conversations within a topic or channel. It allows you to discuss new ideas, share updates, and get feedback from team members.

Create

To create a new thread in a channel:

  1. Click on the channel in the side navigation pane.

  2. Click Icon Edit Start a new thread or click the Start a new thread button in the conversation pane.

Qbo displays the new thread in the Channel pane next to the navigation pane. It includes the name of the thread, the timestamp it was created, and a profile picture of the user who created it.

Participants in a thread

Participants are defined at channel level. All threads in a particular channel have the same mix of participants as the channel.

Rename

By default, threads are named in a sequential manner. For example, Untitled Thread, Untitled Thread 2, Untitled Thread 3, and so on. However, you can rename threads to make them easier to find.

To rename a thread:

  1. Either double-click the thread name at the top of the conversation pane or click Icon Vertical and select Rename.

The text is editable as soon as the box appears in a dotted outline.

  2. Replace it with the thread name of your choice.

  3. Click Icon Check.

    The thread is renamed.

You can star mark a thread or threads in a channel to treat them as favorite or important threads.

Tip

You can only star threads in the default qbo channel and channels you created.

To mark a thread with a star:

  1. Click the thread name to open the thread in the right pane.

  2. On the top right of the pane, click Icon Star icon.

    ../_images/starThread.png

The color of the star changes to yellow and the thread appears under STARRED THREADS in the same channel.

All threads that are starred, across all channels, will appear in the Starred section on the side navigation pane.

Delete

Qbo allows you to delete a single thread or multiple threads from a channel (Qbo or any custom channel).

Delete single thread

  1. Click Icon Vertical on the top right of the thread pane.

Query

To ask a question, open a thread and start typing the question in the message box at the bottom of the screen.

Guided Mode

As you type, autocompletions show up to help guide you to a query the bot will understand. The autocompletions can provide clues for you to enter a string, number, or data value, by showing keywords like #string#, #number# and date#).

Free form Mode

You can still submit a question even if the Submit button remains red. The bot uses natural language processing (NLP) to determine how best to respond to the user question with the help of the free form option.

By default, the free form option is enabled. However, if the option is disabled, enable it:

  1. Click Icon Vertical from the thread menu on top right (threads from Qbo channel as well as other custom channels).

    ../_images/free_form.png
  2. Click Enable Free Form Enable free form.

How to query using free form

In qbo channel:

  1. Ensure that the free form option is enabled.

  2. Submit a query. For example:

In other custom channels:

  1. Ensure that the free form option is enabled.

  2. Start with @qbo followed by the actual query. For example:

Qbo uses NLP to decode the request into the right set of data, chart, and insight.

Depending upon the query type, Qbo answers with a visualization which helps you to understand the analytics. See Refer: Chart types for more information.

Click the View button to see the query details and further interact. You can also:

  1. Like the query results by clicking the thumb-up icon.

  2. Dislike the query results by clicking the thumb-down icon.

  3. Report an issue with it by clicking the triangle icon.

The query result (Vizy) opens in a pop-up window.

../_images/view.png

You can click:

  • Add to board: Pin the vizy to the board.

  • Icon X: Close the vizy.

  • Change type: Change the type of chart to view the vizy in different visualization.

  • Icon Horizontal: More interactions that can be performed on a vizy.

  • Legend: A representation of legend keys or entries on the plotted area of chart or graph which are linked to the vizy

    of the chart.

The vizies are interactive with clickable legends and tooltips. You can hover over a datapoint to view the tooltip.

To continue querying, you can type another query or further refine the previous query. Qbo gives various options to refine the query just above the query input box. Click the appropriate refinement query to get the results you want.

Tip

To re-run the previous query, press Ctrl + Shift + Up Arrow keys on your keyboard.
